NEW DELHI: Treasury bench MPs condemned opposition for politicising the NEET-UG paper leak issue and recent protests, as they highlighted how govt has taken steps in the right direction to address concerns by holding dialogue with students to end their agitation and proposing a stronger law against exam paper leaks.Participating in the discussion, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi listed government’s efforts to resolve student protest and also highlighted how senior ministers J P Nadda and Jitendra Singh held talks with them and activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was fasting for 26 days.

Government agreed to the demands of students, he said, adding Dharmendra Pradhan resigned as education minister, a fast-track court was set up and a task force was set up by PM Narendra Modi under Aadhaar architect Nandan Nilekani.On Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, Trivedi said there are three basic principles – a sensitive approach towards students, a secured process and a stringent law against paper leaks. Trivedi said the bill provides for stringent punishment, time-bound investigation and speedier justice. These will prove key in preventing paper leaks, he said.Targeting opposition MPs, who raised questions on PM Modi’s educational qualifications, he said those who have never themselves faced competition in exams, in education, or in their own political parties are now teaching the govt. “In contrast, our politicians and our PM have faced competition and exams and have risen from the ground,” Trivedi said.JDU’s Sanjay Jha supported the bill, saying this should not be looked at from political prospects.Shiv Sena’s Milind Deora suggested students should be involved in the reform process by giving them a formal role in the consultations.
