NEW DELHI: Congress will stage a massive demonstration and march to the chief minister’s residence in Dehradun on September 7, the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee said on Friday.The protest follows a call by the All India Congress Committee (AICC).The protest will begin at Parade Ground and focus on the alleged “shuddhikaran” or “purification” of Haldwani’s Ramlila Ground, where Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge recently addressed a rally.

The grand old party is demanding action against those involved in the incident and BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt, who it alleged had justified the act.The party will also demand the immediate withdrawal of an FIR registered in Haldwani against Lok Sabha leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi, calling it as a “malicious” move aimed at targeting his campaign for social justice.According to the Pradesh Congress, senior Congress leaders from Delhi will also participate in the protest and address the gathering in Dehradun.The development comes days after Rahul Gandhi, while addressing a press conference at the Congress headquarters in New Delhi, attacked the BJP over the alleged “shuddhikaran” of the Haldwani ground.
