Balance needed between scientific probe and right to privacy, says SC

NEW DELHI: Supreme Court on Monday said technological advancements have made criminal investigation far more complicated and a challenge for the investigating agencies, as they get the stick from the court and the victim for not conducting the probe scientifically, and on the other hand, are accused of violation of privacy if they do.“A balance needs to be struck,” said a bench of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, while dealing with an application by journalist Abhishek Upadhyay, who claimed to be whistleblower on pilferage of Ram temple donations, and has accused Ghaziabad police of making an FIR in an alleged road rage case the pretext for seeking his digital footprints from June 1 from social media platforms to find his sources.
