NEW DELHI: Total receipts by BJP’s central party headquarters during the last round of assembly polls in Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry stood at Rs 1,472.8 crore, as per the party’s election expenditure statements for Assam, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry submitted to the Election Commission.The party’s closing balance rose to Rs 7,627.2 crore upon the completion of elections on May 6, 2026, compared to Rs 6,722.6 crore on March 15, 2026.BJP, including the party’s central headquarters and the relevant state and district units, spent a total Rs 160 crore on the assembly elections in Assam, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Assam accounted for the BJP’s highest spend at Rs 96.3 crore, followed by TN at Rs 51.6 crore and Puducherry (Rs 11.9 crore). Almost Rs 130.4 crore was spent on general party propaganda, while Rs 29.6 crore went to candidates as lump sum payments and on the publicity of their criminal antecedents. The election expenditure statements for the other two states of West Bengal and Kerala are yet to be made public by EC.

As per BJP’s election expenditure statements for Assam, the party spent Rs 76.7 crore on general party propaganda, which included Rs 23.1 crore spent by its central unit, and another Rs 19.5 crore spent on candidates. While Rs 27.3 crore was spent on travel expenses of star campaigners in Assam, Rs 37 crore was on advertisements, Rs 8.9 crore on publicity materials and Rs 2.3 crore on other expenses by the state unit. A total lump sum of Rs 19.4 crore was paid to candidates and Rs 16.7 lakh spent on publishing criminal antecedents of candidates. In TN, BJP authorised a total spend of Rs 44.5 crore for general party propaganda. Another Rs 7 crore was spent on candidates.In its expenditure statement released earlier for the same set of elections, Congress had declared a total spend of Rs 248.6 crore.
